Welcome to History

Intent

A key aim of the History department is to offer our students a diverse, inclusive and engaging curriculum. Our curriculum at Key Stage Three has been designed to follow a chronological approach so as to provide students with the ‘bigger picture’ of the past. At Key Stage Four we have listened to our students and selected topics that they have shown great interest in, whilst still giving them the benefit of learning about different cultures and key historical figures. Finally, at Key Stage Five we select areas of the past that are not covered in depth lower down the school so as to broaden student’s historical knowledge and prepare them for further study or employment.

We aspire to encourage our students to challenge and question interpretations of the past with rigour and ignite their curiosity of the past by offering extra-curricular trips for all year groups. Fundamentally, we share the belief that by providing all students with a greater understanding of the History of their country and the role our country has played in the world around them, this better prepares them for the world they are yet to create.
