Intent

The English Department strive to enable students to reach their potential in English and achieve qualifications which will be of use to them in their future studies and their working lives. We develop all students’ ability to communicate effectively orally and in a range of written contexts and situations, enabling students to use accurate Standard English with confidence and fluency. We develop their knowledge and experience of our literary heritage and endeavour, through close examination and analysis, to motivate students to tackle new and challenging texts. All students are encouraged to develop both socially and personally with respect for themselves and others, reflecting and debating the wider issues of the world and communities in which they live.
