WATCH: Y7s Myth Busting
Year 7s dispel secondary school fears in new video
Overton Grange Y7s myth busting starting secondary school.
Parents are being urged not to miss the 31 October deadline for secondary school applications. Overton Grange School is leading the call with a new video of Year 7 pupils sharing the fears they had last year and how quickly those worries disappeared.
In the short film, pupils speak candidly about concerns such as getting lost, making new friends and keeping up with homework. Each explains how those worries soon faded once they joined the school community.
Headteacher, Chris McNab said: “It is natural for children to feel nervous about such a big change. Our video shows how quickly confidence grows when the environment is right. We are proud of the way our students look out for one another, and we hope this encourages families to come and see us.”
The invitation comes as Overton Grange School celebrates strong 2025 examination results:
· GCSEs: 96% of pupils gained five or more GCSEs at grades 9 - 4.
· 65.3% achieved grade 4 or above in English and Maths, with 42.1% achieving grades 5 or above.
· 63.6% of BTEC students achieved Merit or Distinction.
· A Levels: 21.9% of entries were graded A* - A, 43.4% A*- B and 78.3% A* - C, with 84% of students securing a place at their first choice university.
“These fantastic results show how far the school has come in raising standards and supporting every learner to succeed,” said Mr McNab
The school is inviting prospective parents and pupils to its Open Evening on Thursday 25th September 2025 where staff and current students will offer tours and answer questions. Visitors will see classrooms in action and meet the team behind the school’s recent improvements.
Choosing a secondary school is one of the most important decisions parents make. Overton Grange encourages families to look for:
· Warm, approachable staff and strong pastoral support
· A broad curriculum and opportunities beyond the classroom
· A culture of ambition alongside care for individual needs
Parents have until 31 October to submit their preferences to the local authority.
