Year 9 - Geography Field Trip

This trip provided a hands-on learning experience, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge in a real-world context. The primary focus of the investigation revolved around two key questions:

  • To what extent is urban sustainability evident in Guildford Town Centre?

  • Is there a demonstrable need for urban regeneration within the area?

Students engaged in a variety of data collection methods, providing them with a comprehensive understanding of urban dynamics. These included:

  • Environmental Quality Surveys: Assessing the aesthetic and functional aspects of the environment.

  • Bi-Polar Analysis: Evaluating contrasting elements within the urban landscape.

  • Resident Interviews: Gathering firsthand perspectives on sustainability and regeneration needs.

Despite the unpredictable weather, our students demonstrated resilience and enthusiasm throughout the day. Working collaboratively in groups, they diligently completed their fieldwork booklets, honing their analytical and observational skills. The trip fostered teamwork, problem-solving, and a deeper appreciation for geographical research methods.

Back in the classroom, students are now immersed in the data analysis phase. They are preparing presentations based on their findings, drawing informed conclusions about the extent of urban sustainability in Guildford and the potential need for regeneration. This process reinforces their critical thinking and communication skills.

The Guildford Geography trip was a resounding success, thanks to the dedication and hard work of our Year 9 students. Their active participation and insightful observations have set a high standard for future fieldwork endeavours. We eagerly anticipate the opportunity to provide similar enriching experiences in the years to come, further inspiring a passion for geography and sustainability.
