Year 6 Drama Workshop Visits

By Georgia Miller Year 12

The workshop saw the students perform a modernized version of the widely known fairytale, Little Red Riding Hood. Set in the

bustling city of Sutton, Little Red takes her electric scooter to her grandma's flat to give her some goodies, however a wolf meets her on her way and he follows her. The wolf is greeted with a nasty surprise when he finds out grandma is prepared with a panic button and a hiding area within a wardrobe. Red arrives; the wolf is ready to strike but grandma saves the day with her karate kicks before security takes away the troublesome beast.

Ms Convey and Ms Maclean, the drama teachers who ran the workshop, described it as ‘A chance for the young people to experience the world of drama and for the school to make links within the local community.’ The workshop also focuses on team building including various warm up games that required the students to work together to complete various tasks.

Parents were invited in at the end of the day, and the students performed a full run of the show under the heat of the spotlights Full of laughter, smiles and admittedly cheesy jokes, both shows were a success. Parents called the show ‘A great way for students to show off their creativity,’ and ‘A great confidence booster to show them that they can do anything with a little bit of confidence.’ All the Year Six students were smiling from morning until the late afternoon.

Students left the workshop chatting with their friends enthusiastically. One student said that ‘We had so much fun! I would do it again 100%.’

This workshop was a success; students left with a renewed sense of confidence and made new memories along the way. Considering this positive response, it seems inevitable that the workshop will run next year, but for now, it is curtain call.
